After the summer break, the September Tap trip felt like a nice way to get back into things. The morning started off the usual way. We grabbed some tools, got assigned to a plot of land, and get to work. We were moving and leveling out dirt , but for a different section of the temple grounds than last time. It was one of those jobs that sounds simple until you’re actually knee-deep in it.

Even though it was hot and dusty, everyone kept the energy up. There’s something kind of nice about falling into that rhythm of working with your friends and volunteers. You talk, joke around, and before you know it, a couple of hours have flown by and the space looks completely different from when you started.

Around noon, we took a break for lunch. We all sat together under the shade, talking and cooling off while eating. The mix of students, adult volunteers, and temple masters always makes these lunches feel special. After lunch, a few of us helped move some furniture around to prep for another upcoming project. It wasn’t the most exciting, but it felt good to know we were helping set things up for the next group of volunteers and students, too.

It’s always so cool seeing how every month the place changes little by little because of all the work we’ve done. I can’t wait to see what we take on next time in October!

The Tap Initiative January Tap Trip

We kicked off the new year with the January Tap Trip at Fa Yun Chan Temple, and it felt great to get back into the groove. This trip was pretty similar to what we’ve done before. Lots of digging, movi
